Alicia Garcia, director of Campus Ministry at Central Catholic High School, has been promoted to assistant principal for Academics at Central Catholic High School. Deacon Pat Cunningham, principal, made the announcement. She will assume her new duties on July 1, 2008.

The assistant principal for Academics is responsible for managing the school's curriculum and academic policies. She will also recruit teaching and ancillary staff and supervise the faculty development and mentorship programs.

Ms. Garcia has been on staff at Central Catholic since 1996, first teaching Religion before being named director of Campus Ministry eight years ago. She also served on the Administrative Council. Previously, she served as director of Religious Education at St. Jude’s Catholic Church.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree in Theology from St. Mary’s University, a master of arts degree in Moral Theology from St. Mary’s University and is currently pursuing a master of education degree in School Administration from Trinity University (graduation set for May).

She was honored with the 2006 Marianist Heritage Award, Central Catholic’s highest honor recognizing characteristics of leadership, service, school spirit and spirituality.
