Education in the Marianist Tradition
Catholic schools are a vital part of the Church’s mission. Marianist Catholic schools help our youth find meaning in life by reflecting on gospel values and discovering God in their hearts. The Marianist priests and brothers ministering in our schools with dedicated laypeople are preparing the next generation of leaders for our Church and society, and that gives us something to celebrate. Our founder, Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, reminds us that “teaching is but a means we use to fulfill our mission, which is to introduce everywhere the spirit of faith and to multiply Christians.”

We are proud of the programs coordinated by the Office of Education that offer resources and direction for Marianist sponsored schools: 18 secondary/middle schools from coast to coast, including Ireland and Puerto Rico, educating almost 13,000 students; and three universities in Honolulu, Dayton and San Antonio, educating almost 15,000 students.
In these institutions we look very intentionally at how the Catholic and Marianist mission can be accomplished. We stress five characteristics:
- Educate for formation in faith
- Provide an integral, quality education
- Educate in family spirit
- Educate for service, justice and peace
- Educate for adaptation and change
We welcome your ideas and suggestions. May Blessed Chaminade watch over our efforts as we look for ways to advance our Catholic, Marianist charism, which will require your prayers and our determined effort!
