Supporting students to achieve at Marianist high schools
The EXCEL Program, created in 1992, identifies at-risk students in urban elementary schools and provides them with financial, academic and social support so that they can succeed at Marianist high schools.
The Marianists operate these programs at:
- Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati
- Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland
- Central Catholic High School in San Antonio
- St. Mary’s High School in St. Louis
“Without financial aid from EXCEL, tuition costs would prevent most of these students from attending Catholic high schools,” says Marianist Bro. Jesse O’Neill, Assistant for Education. “They wouldn’t be exposed to the same values and would be lost in the shuffle of the public school system. In some cases, they’d be at risk of not graduating from high school.”
